These boots are excellent for the price. I’ve been at traffic collision investigations for hours in the rain in these and no water seepage whatsoever. While it doesn’t rain as much in Los Angeles, when it rains, it -really- rains. I originally purchased these in May 2016, wore them through the Police Academy, on Patrol, ran in them chasing suspects on tile flooring without sliding as well as dry dirt and mud and still maintaining traction. These are my only pair of boots, I wear them everyday doing basic patrol and they still hold up. They are extremely lightweight which makes it great for running and jumping around. They do squeak a little, but unless you’re on tile flooring all day you won’t even notice. Fit is spot on. They will hold a shine and have no issues with the shine at the ‘toe-bend’ area up front cracking the polish and I even wear them for special occasions in my blues. There are areas on the sole of the boot and the sides around the ball of your feet where the siding is beginning to come off — certainly not as quickly as some others have stated. This is only beginning to happen about 13-14 months after initial use. They support well, especially since they are only 4″ boots, and i’ve had great ankle support right out of the box. I’ve worn these on the pavement in heat waves without feeling like the bottom of my feet are on fire. The insole will eventually need replacing (just like any other), but for the price and considering weight, they are “most excellent!”.

These are my favorite boots. This is the second pair that I have bought. I wear them all day every day. My last pair got soaked with some manure and water so I turned them into my mucking boots and bought a second pair. They were not very worn out and still have some life in them for the dirtier jobs, even after over a year of daily wear. They are reasonably waterproof until you get to the tongue area. They give me the ankle support that I like while still allowing me to wear shorts in the summer and not look too ridiculous. The only thing that could make these boots any better, in my opinion, is a composite safety toe. I recommend Bates brand boots for sure! I’ve been wearing them for over 7 years ever since I got a pair while working at a food manufacturing factory (not the same GX line). In that environment they didn’t last more than a year with all the chemicals and water they were subjected to, however. Luckily we had a yearly boot allowance at that job.

Initial Out of Box Review:2-25-17I wear and 11.5 in Nikes. After trying on Bates shoes in the local shops I found out I was a 10.5 in Bates. So for me, 1 size down. The boots lace up nice and I have some wiggle room in the toes. Ankle area feels a bit tight right now, but no complaints until after I break them in. Will be back for future review.3/1/17I’ve worn the boots for a few days now, they are starting to loosen up in a good way. I’ve worn them at the most 6 hours straight so far and they have been very comfortable. I am try truly satisfied with my purchase so far.9/21/17Been wearing for a few months. 10+hrs at a time. Stepped out of my car into a puddle approx 3-4 inches deep and thought my socks were done for… but turns out no water went thru. Ordering a second pair to throw in the closet before I can’t find them anymore.
