Over the last couple of years the world of flashlights has shifted from keeping enough batteries in stock to having the right charging cable. This is a great improvement, and much cheaper than constantly buying AA or AAA batteries (never mind those “C” and “D” batteries!)This pair of flashlights combines the best of both worlds: It comes with a large, rechargable battery unit, charges up on USB “C.” Any USB source will work, from a computer to a wall-wart charger, to a port in a car, to a spare battery — even another flashlight! (Because as it happens this sort of rechargeable flashlight also functions as a storage battery if you need to charge a phone — Or share a charge with a second flashlight!)Having said that it is conceivable that there may be an opportunity where there are no USBC cables or there are no USB sources but one has a drawer full of batteries still. Fortunately these flashlights come with an adapter into which you can slip three Triple-A batteries and run it like it was 1995.The flashlight has several useful features including a charge remaining indicator of four LED’s, way better than your typical disposable battery flashlight. It also has a certain amount of change of focus which makes the beam wider or narrower. Because of the way the beam projects the light has a very sharp edge almost like a stag spotlight. If you contract the light small enough it actually projects an image of the LED which is a white square with a black line across it, almost like the old X-ray machine targets they used to have common also back in 1995. :-DThe light cycles through very bright bright medium bright and low, has a disturbingly irritating flashing mode (I suppose it would be useful for disorienting bears, or muggers or Or signaling to the space aliens or rescue helicopter to pick you up). It also has the typical mode where it will flash S.O.S. in Morse code — Not sure who can read Morse code these days, but at least you won’t accidentally send “O.S.O” by confusing which letter is ” – – -” and which is ” . . .”.Long press turns the unit off.These are not as small as some, and may not be super comfortable jangling around in a pocket but they are smaller than the typical sea or D cell flashlight, and feel very solid and comfortable in the hand. They come with a wrist loop as well just to assure that you won’t drop it if you are scaling a rock face or changing a tire.Because these are big and robust, but come with a carry-on case, it’s a great set to keep in the car. There’s one for the driver and one for the passenger. We will probably keep these by the back door for use in the backyard and the basement at night, and so they can be grabbed easily in event of a power failure.Of course, only time will tell how long the battery will last and how well they will stand up to regular use, And if at some point in the future they stop functioning well, this review would be updated. If it has not been updated they still work fine.

I like this pair of flashlights because not only are they rechargeable, but if the power is out and you happen to have normal, non-rechargeable batteries, they have included the special insert so that you can use the other type of batteries for them. According to the charge meter that is by the power switch, the lights I received had fully charged batteries when they arrived.The body of the light is sturdy and has some weight to it once the rechargeable battery is inside it. The lights are easy to use. I am not overly excited about the strobe feature, but the SOS feature could be useful. The strobe is not comfortable for my eyes, lol.I was using one of the lights last night checking my ceiling in the hallway as I thought I heard a drip. I had the light on high for maybe 5 minutes at most and when I turned it off, then I noticed that in the switch area of the flashlight body it was getting warm. I had been holding it by the back end mostly with the light pointed at my ceiling. Not sure if this is normal with this type of flashlights or not. That really was the only maybe negative I have found with them.I’m going to recommend these flashlights. They are very bright. I think everyone should have at least one of these in their home and car for emergencies. Though I would not recommend allowing children to use them as they could shine the light into someone’s eyes and I am not sure if that would be safe at all. The brightness is very powerful with these.

This is a great value for a set of two. Both kids received one as a gift, and they have been very useful. The battery lasts a long time, and the light stays super bright until the battery is really low. I engraved them with a laser to make them personal, and as a gift they worked great. Would buy again, great value flashlight.
