I have been wearing Everboots for years, and for me the mantra has always been, “you have to break them in before they can be comfortable.” In fact my previous pair are still not as comfortable as my oldest pair in the closet, but that pair is starting to get pretty worn.Well these are pretty comfortable from the start. Probably more comfortable than the pair of Everboots I was wearing.Some criticisms: a 90 day guarantee for boots is ridiculous. Boots should last for years: even though these are more comfortable to start than my previous boots, I would consider 90 days a break-in period, not a test of endurance. Make it a one year guarantee or don’t bother.The plastic grommets give me cause for concern, but I do not KNOW that they are less durable than the metal ones. I also dislike that they are enclosed rather than open like on my previous boots. I would prefer solid open brass grommets to enclosed plastic ones. These make it harder to tighten up the laces.Also I live in an area that tends to get very wet, and I have to go through wet grass and puddles a lot. I have no idea how the plastic is going to handle that. Now you would think that it would handle it far better than leather, but I know how to make leather water resistant: with mink oil. Can you even use mink oil on this? I have no idea. So while I admit that the synthetics make for a more comfortable shoe, how they will hold up to the wet is an open question.All that said, there are a lot of positive things to say about them too. They are, as I said, fairly comfortable from the minute I put them on. They have a heel tab, which I missed having in my previous boots. These heel tabs however are too tiny for me to put my index finger in, but I could easily engineer an extension as long as the mount exists, so that’s a plus. They look great.Boots are or should be long-lived products, and the fact that I have been wearing Everboots for years says something about their longevity. They’re not cheap, but a good pair of boots will last you. Whether these are as durable as their predecessors remains to be seen, but the comfort from the start makes me want to put the boots I was wearing in the closet (after they dry out and I put mink oil on them!)
