Leupold’s GR 10-20x40mm ended what had been a disappointing quest for a “do-it-all” optic. I hike O’ahu trails, and enjoy plane spotting at HNL’s runway. I’ve owned the following monoculars:Wingspan’s 12×50 TitanEyeskey’s 10-30×50 CyclopsVortex’s Solo 8x36Vortex’s Solo 10x36Simply put, this Leupold monocular out-classes them all for the following reasons:1-It provides an image with the truest colors, sharpest focus, and lines of contrast which do not have the distracting “rainbows”, especially when the sun strikes at shallow angles2-For a monocular with zoom feature, the GR10-20×40 offered a much wider field of view then the Eyeskey I owned. Also, the image remains true at full zoom, where as the Cyclops’ image started warping.3-Please note the 2 listed monoculars with 50mm objectives. When divided by their magnification, the exit pupil should match, or exceed that of the Leupold (when the Cyclops is at its 10x adjustment). Due to the attention to many details, Leupold 40mm’s brightness somehow still wins.I gifted the Titan, Cyclops, and 8x Solo to friends. I now only have my 10X36 Solo and this GR10-20×40. Tight budget? Yeah: get the Vortex Solo 10×36, and send them an email telling them to PROVIDE LENS COVERS, or at least as an add-on option. NOTHING in this size range, though, will give you such a clear, enjoyable viewing experience with MANAGEABLE, hand-held zoom…as Leupold’s GR 10-20x40mm.Wasted money aside, I am actually glad I was able to experience the performance of lower priced monoculars to hold against this one. I paid over four times as much on this unit, but I am completely satisfied.
